The following families are eligible for the allowance
- have at least 1 child under the age of 25 who has lived in the property to be renovated for at least 1 year (unless the child is under the age of 1 and/or the property was acquired within 1 year prior to the application), or
- are expecting a baby and the foetus is at least 12 weeks old
Regarding renovation costs, whatever the amount, the maximum amount that can be claimed back is HUF 3 million, so the best use of the subsidy is for renovations of around HUF 6 million.
In addition to families, cohabiting and single parents can also apply for the allowance, which is capped at HUF 3 million if the child shares the same place of residence as the parent, and HUF 1.5 - 1.5 million if the children of single parents live separately.
Is the renovation amount not available?
There is a solution, but in this case you need to ask the bank for more information.
The housing renovation allowance can be claimed afterwards. During the renovation, invoices must be collected to justify the renovation and used as a basis for the ex-post payment.
But what happens if the money for renovation is not available? The aid is still available if the renovation is financed by a loan. In addition, once the grant is received, you may be able to repay part or all of the loan in advance! This loan can be a home loan, a baby loan for eligible persons or a personal loan.
For more information on credit, we recommend that you contact your bank for the most accurate information.
How can I apply for support?
The housing renovation grant can be applied for until 31 December 2022, via the electronic interface operated by the Treasury, by post or at the government office, and will be assessed within 30 days.
How do I receive the amount of the subsidy afterwards?
If the application is successful, the grant will be paid within 5 days. In other words, in total, if the application is complete, beneficiaries will have to wait 35 days to receive 50% of the total amount of the renovation from the State.
Don't forget the "small print"!
- invoices for renovation must be in your own name and must be subject to 27% VAT, 5% is not appropriate
- the renovator cannot be a close relative or partner. In the case of a company, the claimant or the claimant's close relative or partner cannot be a member, manager or employee of the company.
- also the basic rule that the invoice already used for the family home creation benefit (csok) cannot be submitted in the renovation programme.
- the aid can be claimed until the end of 2022 at the latest!
- 60 days after the completion of construction activities and payment of invoices
- the grant amount of HUF 3 million must cover half the cost of labour and half the cost of materials
