The gutter seems to be a seemingly dispensable part of the various buildings: its function is "only" to collect and drain rainwater (rainwater, snow melt) from the roof. But it is much more important than you might think! A well-constructed gutter system protects the façade from soaking (stained walls, falling plaster, soaking) and the foundation from possible subsidence. It can be said that the condition and functioning of guttering is not only a matter of aesthetics. In most cases in Hungary, we have a rainwater drainage system that is suspended (fixed by gutter supports and installed under the eaves). This is because they are easy to install, maintain and replace.
Nowadays, when choosing a guttering system, there are several factors to consider in addition to rainwater drainage, such as:
Gutters are exposed to a variety of stresses, such as: occasional acid rain (atmospheric corrosion), thermal expansion (due to temperature fluctuations), mechanical stress (due to the weight of snow sliding on them in winter), and UV radiation (which can weaken the durability of the coating sooner for certain types). All of these can be avoided with the right choice of materials and a well thought-out design.
In Hungary, guttering is manufactured and marketed in a variety of materials, including galvanised (coloured) steel, plastic (rigid PVC), aluminium and, less commonly, copper and galvanised steel. Natural or coloured galvanised steel gutters have a high strength, are corrosion resistant and have the lowest coefficient of thermal expansion of all gutter materials. They are available in different designs (external or internal flanges), coatings and colours.

The design of the gutter system (cross-section of the gutter, number of outlets) depends mainly on the dimensions of the roof: mainly on the size (horizontal projection) and slope of the roof surface, and on the precipitation conditions in the area. The cross-section of gutters can be semicircular or rectangular, but there is no real difference in function (drainage). In Hungary, semi-circular gutters are the most common, as they are more durable, drain water faster and are cheaper. The slope of the gutter should be at least 5mm/1m, i.e. 0.5 per cent, but care must be taken to avoid a reverse slope in a section, as water can become stagnant in the gutter. Steel gutters are fixed to each other by means of spacers, soldering and/or riveting.

For a longer service life, it is advisable to install snow tongs on the roof, which will save the gutter and the supporting elements (and people passing under the gutter) from mechanical stress caused by excess snow and ice. If there are trees close to the roof, it is advisable to install leaf and branch clamps in the inlet stub of the gutter system to save the dangerous task of cleaning the gutter, prevent clogging and prevent rainwater from falling over the edge of the gutter.
The gutter system collects rainwater. The rainwater from the roof can be used for irrigation of the garden after proper filtration, or even for flushing toilets or washing inside the building.)
The elements of the system are manufactured using Swedish technology and are made of top-quality Swedish steel (0.6 mm), galvanised (275 g/m2) on both sides and coated with Prelaq Nova (2×50 microns). Thanks to the Prelaq Nova coating, the products have an exceptionally smooth surface, very high colour stability and exceptional resistance to rain and airborne pollutants.

The external flanged gutter system is available in two sizes - 150/100 and 125/90 - and 12 colour options. Thanks to the range of sizes and colours, you can create countless unique combinations to best match the colour of your roof.
The five layers protecting the sheet metal give each element corrosion resistance and an extremely long service life. This means that the BILKA system remains resistant for an extremely long time, and maintenance consists of cleaning the gutters.

It is made of hot-dip galvanized steel with a colour coating system. Its colour fastness is due to the fact that the coating is applied to the galvanised steel before the product is manufactured, not as a post-painted product. An excellent solution for stretching under UV radiation and variable weather conditions.
